Varona was born the youngest in her pride's royal family and the only girl. Being the only female in a litter of boys, she developed a bit of a tomboyish personality, even though in her heart she still had a petite and feminine tendency, such as the desire to grow up to become a mother one day. The Dawn pride being located in a secluded area, they don't get visits from other prides very often. They're like the small town where everyone knows your name. So when she's asked to leave her home and journey to the distant pridelands, she feels extremely out of place and feels anxiety for the first time in her life.
Upon arriving in the pridelands, she meets the gentle Mohatu who acts like no other male she'd ever come across before. Sure there were other girls in the pride, but she always felt closest to her brothers. She's a little unsure about marrying him at first, but eventually finds that he's so layed back that she can be herself, and not be expected to be anything else. She can even interact with other lionesses and some of the commoners, something that was rarely done in her pride, though sometimes a little bit awkward.
Varona unfortunately had to become the one to relay punishment on her son, which was often met with resistance and "don't make me tell daddy!" from her son Ahadi. She even entertained the thought of trying to conceive another son or daughter from Mohatu and convince him to name that child heir instead, but not only did Ahadi seem to be the only son she would have, but didn't have the heart to tell Mohatu who thought of his son as his pride and joy.
She's also one of the few lionesses to disagree with Ahadi's treatment of the Ashlanders, but being old and frail by that time, she didn't have the strength or courage to stand up to her son, or even dared to show her daughter in law Uru kindness. Instead, she simply stayed out of it, and spent the rest of her days sunning on a rock, blaming herself for being a bad mother despite trying her hardest. If only she dared to reach out to Uru and her son Taka, but she just didn't have the spryness of her youth, not to mention what her egomaniac son might do to her. If he could treat his own son that way, the stars would know how he'd treat his own mother. She'd seen for herself how Mohatu died of a heart attack after confronting him, and how he'd slain Uru later on.
The once rough around the edges lioness succumbed once again to her anxiety, and eventually died of depression.

I think she's a pretty thing! I hope you can see where Ahadi takes after her in appearance. I wasn't really sure what to do with her in terms of story, so I winged it. He's a bit darker though because of his father's darker fur tones.
My boyfriend also helped me come up with her name of Varona. ^^ The term "Dawn" pride comes from the Mythic Dawn, a villainous organization in the game The Elderscrolls IV: Oblivion.
